Is it really a law school?

Our distance learning (correspondence) section has not yet been registered with the applicable State Bar Examiners. You will need to lobby your State Bar. This is a not-for-profit online independent study distance learning cooperative that is FREE for any student willing to put in the time and hard work required to meet his or her own individualized jurisdictional mandate.

There are several states that allow students to become lawyers by apprenticeship and/or correspondence study. Apprentice states require 4 years of apprenticing prior to allowing students to sit for the bar exam. A few of these states allow students to attend school for one year and then apprentice for three.

One particular State, California, allows both apprenticing and correspondence study.

If you can help?

Write us immediately: independentstudyonline@yahoo.com

SOON: We will make available the application procedure. At that time you will also be required to register our distance learning study curriculum with both an attorney in good standing who will be responsible for overseeing your law study and the State Bar accepting your apprenticeship/distance learning.

NEXT: You will file with our Admission Office original certified copies of both the approved individualized study plan and transcripts of any previous post-secondary education study requirement of your jurisdiction.

AFTER THAT: You will receive and must return both a notarized signed original disclosure statement and the student participation contract.

NOTE: Here you will study using the same law books that students at A.B.A. approved law schools use. There will be lectures, online classrooms, and you will be tested and graded.

However, since it's FREE and the bar examination is really the best test of your understanding of the law, we will operate under a pass/fail academic system. That is, strict compliance with your State Bar approved individualized apprenticeship study plan is the only mandate for graduation. In addition, for correspondence students, the California First Year Law Student Bar Examination is mandatory.

Why pay a high tuition for independent study when you can do it here for FREE?

The education of famous jurist: Joseph Story, James Kent, and John Marshall supports independent study of the law. Although there were periods of instruction from lawyers, occasionally alongside a few other students, the bulk of their studies were in solitude, reading and copying from English law.

In addition, there are eight U.S. presidents who became lawyers by apprenticeship. In fact, prior to 1950 there were more apprentice lawyers than law school graduate lawyers.

Did you know that the percentage of distance learning students who passed the July 2001 California General Bar Examination equaled that of graduates of California accredited law schools?

Join other students on campus. Study groups are an important part of law school. They are a means to an end. Most study groups review individual outlines for adequacy and clarification. Review hypothetical questions posted by the course instructor in class or during a lecture to understand the emphasis given within the subject. Discuss assignments and exams so that you have an idea of the scope and challenge of the test.

The study group should be able to get by with little help from others. If the group is distracting from your ability to master the material, quit the group.Use your study groups and your outlines as tools. Keep them simple for success.
